Since our last reccy we have had to made some decisions on the course due to another event taking place in the same area on Sunday. So we have opted not to have a prologue but to have three full days competitive riding.
Day 1 is now a full 230kms with two times stages of around 40kms each.
Some of the riders from 2016 will recognise the opening 6km – from there on we have an entirely new course with a variety of terrain and also some demanding navigation, your average speed will be quite low up to around the 70km mark. We head over to Arganil for the second fuel stop and then do some of the trails from the recent Gois Raid TT event. This is the biggest day and it was decided to do this day first whilst the riders are fresh and ready to roll – so make sure all your nav towers and roadbooks are 100%.
Day 2 is 160kms with one timed stage and intricate navigation – some of you may have seen our reccy photos where we were about the snow line, so we are right up in the mountains for 2 day.
Day 3 is approx 140kms in more technical terrain to the north of Rally HQ – this day is 100% new to the Tour of Portugal and has one special stage. We should be all back in the hotel for around 4pm on day 3 and ready for the awards ceremony in the evening. Yes, there will be a winner and trophies for the first three places in Rally Class and a winners trophy for the Adventure Class.
